Serving Christ For Over 50 Years

OUR 2007
RETIRED MINISTERS & MISSIONARIES OFFERING

Throughout the month of December, we’ll be receiving this year’s Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering. This is an annual ABCUSA offering that provides:
  1. Thank You checks to over 3,000 retired ABC ministers and missionaries and their widowed spouses, based on 15 or more years of ABC service.
  2. Emergency and other financial assistance based on need.
Already we’ve received $1,777. toward our 2007 goal of $2,007. What a wonderful response! For your convenience, RMMO offering envelopes are available in the pew racks. Checks may be made out to Bethel Baptist Church and marked RMMO. Please help us remember those who have served us.

ANCHOR MINISTRIES

Advancing the Cause of Christ Among American Muslims

Scott and JoEllen Cherry are the directors of ANCHOR Ministries. The work of ANCHOR takes place in three primary arenas within the local Muslim community:

1) The Neighborhoods: This includes good neighboring, personal evangelism, visitation, summer park encounters, Oasis gatherings, hospitality, Bible studies and fellowship groups.

2) The Public Square: Through Detroit Venture, this includes the planning of high-profile events such as literature distribution, park concerts, media campaigns, etc.

3) The University: In partnership with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, this includes many of the same types of activities on the campus of Wayne State University.

In 2008 Bethel plans to contribute $500 through our Financial Plan for Ministry to support ANCHOR. In addition, we hope to raise at least $100 a month in additional support for this ministry. To accomplish this, we’re asking for monthly pledges of no more than $10.

At this point we have 7 pledges for a monthly total of $65. If you would like to join in this support, please speak with Pastor Dahlen. Thank you.

Soup Kitchen Volunteers Needed   Again, our opportunity to serve at the Trinity Episcopal Soup Kitchen is approaching. We will provide volunteers to help in the preparation and serving. We work in two shifts. The Preparation shift begins around 9:00am and works until noon preparing bag lunches, etc. The Serving shift starts about 11:30am and works until 2:30pm distributing bag lunches followed by light clean up. New developments within Trinity Soup Kitchen. There will not be cooking or serving hot lunches. The first shift will be preparing bag lunches and the serving shift will be handing out the bag lunches. There will be no hot food at this time.  If you are willing to volunteer to help serve, please call the office. Also if you are interested in baking any cookies, let the office know. This is a small expression of “God’s Love”.We are also collecting plastic grocery bags to take up to the soup kitchen. If you are willing to volunteer to help prepare or serve,
Please call the office @ 734.284.6300
ask when is Bethel's next date to volunteer.  Thank you.

A CHANGE IN THE CAMPBELL’S LABELS PROGRAM
Campbell’s is no longer accepting
front panel product labels.
For many years the Campbell’s Labels for Education program has provided equipment and supplies for our two American Baptist mission centers in Alaska – the Kodiak Baptist Mission and the Cordova Christian Center. You have been very faithful in bringing in these labels. While the program still works the same, Campbell’s is no longer accepting the traditional soup labels. From now on, please save and bring in only the UPC labels from Campbell’s products. A sheet listing eligible products is available on the table in the narthex.
Please remember, the program is still in operation. We are still supporting ministry by bringing in these UPC labels.
As you continue to shop at Meijer Stores, Bethel continues to reap the benefits.
We received another “Community Rewards” check – this one for $147.60, raising our grand total to $1,254.34.  Remember!, this program costs us nothing.  Having your (free!) card scanned before paying for your order is all you have to do.  It’s painless!  Thanks to all of you for continuing your stewardship to our mission here at Bethel.  If you’ve not signed up for this program, please either call our church Secretary, Gwen Brow, for details; or click on the link below to find out more information about how the program works and how you can sign up; or call 1-800-962-7011 to register by phone.

It’s quick and easy to sign up.
